Tough Day At World Champs, But An Amazing Season For Trek World Racing Downhillers

Last Sunday the World Championships showed just how difficult they can be for even the best riders in the world. It's a one shot deal and the weather and mountain can have a huge effect on a rider's performance no matter how hard they've work for it. In the end it was a ride of pure brilliance by Danny Hart (GBR) in the Men's, and a clean and aggressive run by Emmeline Ragot (FRA) in the Women’s, that took the titles.

Unfortunately for all 4 of Trek World Racing's downhill riders, crashes marred their runs on the drenched mountainside in Champery, Switzerland. The rain that was promising to show up on Sunday, arrived in abundance and made for a race of survival in the junior categories; and for very difficult riding for all others. Neko Mulally had qualified an easy 8th in Junior Men and was looking to step it up, but a crash early in his run that left him concussed put all hope of a medal aside. Neko didn't suffer any serious injury in the final, but was still nursing a broken hand from earlier in the week.

Justin Leov was on a top 10 run when he crashed due to a vision problem with his goggles. It was very wet, the rain was pouring down, and vision was being compromised. Tracy Moseley crashed 3 times, the last one in spectacular fashion as she ran off course and into the crowd. Fortunately Tracy was not hurt, nor any spectators, and still managed a 9th place. Only 2 women got down the hill without a crash!

Fastest qualifier by 5 seconds and a strong chance for the win, Aaron Gwin was the last man to come down. At the first interval he was only 0.9secs behind Danny (who won by more than 11 seconds) but a small error ran Aaron off the track and hooked his Session 9.9 in the catch fencing costing valuable time. Aaron finished in 12th, clearly devastated by the run.

Despite Sunday September 4 not going the way of the team, all of the team members went to dinner that night and reflected on an amazing season, one that set many records. Aaron's historic 5 World Cup wins, first team to win the Overall in Women's and Men's Downhill and be the number 1 team, and Tracy's best ever season in her career.

Already the team management is planning 2012, but for now 23 Degrees Sports Management would like to sincerely thank all of the sponsors that made this season so great. Tracy Moseley Wins World Cup Title, Aaron Gwin Makes History

In an incredible end to an amazing season for Trek World Racing, here in Val Di Sole Italy, Tracy Moseley clinched the World Cup title and Aaron Gwin became the only man in history to win 5 Downhill World Cups in one season. It's also the first time in the history of the World Cup that a team has won both the Men's and Women's World Cup overalls in Downhill. To top off the great season, Trek World Racing ended up the number 1 ranked team.

The conditions for the World Cup finals were extremely difficult. The heat had dried out the super steep course and holes were filling with super fine powder. The lack of let up in the track made for a very difficult final quarter of racing as riders became very fatigued with arm pump, and the race was fully of spectacular crashes and saves. Neko Mulally was one of the riders that fell victim to the track conditions, crashing just after the first split, but ended up his season as 3rd junior overall.

Justin Leov, who missed the entire first day of training due to a visit to the hospital to check on a neck injury, managed to find most of his speed by the finals, and moved up from 25th in qualifying to 12th on race day, finishing 9th overall for the year, his 3rd top 10 career overall.

For the women's event, Tracy had the unenviable task of riding fast enough to get enough points, but not pushing too hard on this difficult track and throwing away the World Cup title. With a lead of 125 points going into the final over Frenchwoman Floriane Pugin, Tracy needed to finish 7th or better to win. Tracy was not aware of this as she preferred to race without knowing the mathematical situation. In the end a solid, yet slightly nerve wracking run, was good enough for 5th, a perfect record of podiums for 2011 and the title safely in her hands.

Tracy said: "That is such an amazing relief. I'm so glad I didn't know what position I had to come, that would have played on my mind. As it was, it was super hard to race this course. I wanted to let it go many times and just go for it, but in my mind I knew I couldn't risk it all. Not the most enjoyable race, but so cool to win the overall in front of my boyfriend James and my parents. It's been an incredible honor to wear the World Champs jersey all year, and to have had my best season ever while wearing it. A huge thanks to my mechanic Sander, he has been a massive part of my success". For Aaron Gwin, the title may have been wrapped up but that wasn't going to stop the 23 year old American from going for another win. Aaron has treated every race as an individual race to win, and the finals were no different. After qualifying first he was the last man to come down. For the team staff it was a nervous time after seeing so many riders crash, get loose and seemingly be on the edge the whole way down. Aaron however seemed to tame the course, almost looking slow by comparison, but the time gap kept building until eventually he crossed the line for the win. Not only the first to win 5 in a season, but now, after only 1 season, he is the 5th most winning man of all time in World Cup Downhills, behind Steve peat, Nicolas Vouilloz, Greg Minnaar and Sam Hill; quite a season.

Aaron said: "That was one of the toughest tracks I've ever raced on. So many holes you couldn't see and lines blown out, it was a mission to keep your hands on the bars. I had a solid run and felt like I learned a ton this weekend. I feel incredibly blessed to have had the season I've had. I want to thank my team, Trek for the incredible carbon Session 9.9, Fox and Shimano for giving me the greatest product and support, and my mechanic Monkdawg who is always on it. God has been great to me this year, and I'm extremely proud for all the American fans who have been so supportive trackside and on-line."

Team Owner Martin Whiteley said: "This year in Downhill we've had a dream season. It's hard finding the words to be honest. Aaron Gwin Wins Overall World Cup Title, Tracy Moseley Extends Lead

Today in France Aaron Gwin made history, yet again, by becoming the first ever American man ever to win the World Cup Downhill title, a fact that will become even clearer to the 23 year old when he stands on the podium in Italy in 2 weeks' time to receive the prized crystal trophy. His team mate, World Champion Tracy Moseley, won her 4th World Cup race of the season today and has extended her lead to 150 points going into the final round in Italy. Rounding out a perfect weekend, the team once again finished up number 1 for the week.

For the women's event, Tracy had good cause to be anxious going into the finals as a second place to her main rival of season 2011, Floriane Pugin (FRA), would have reduced her points lead to just 70, and with 250 on offer at the finals in Italy, it would have made for a more difficult weekend. Rain had fallen overnight here in La Bresse making for a different track to that qualified on, and a large amount of water early on in the race nearly ended Tracy hopes.
"A huge puddle of water had accumulated on the approach to the top pedaling section and it caught me by surprise. I had to go for my tear-offs and then I struggled a little to get that off, and then I was really worried that I'd messed my run up with that. Floriane is a hard rider to beat on any course, but here in France, I really had my work cut out for me. The win is very sweet, and I'm happy to take the points for sure," said Tracy.
2011 is without doubt Tracy's greatest season of her career, with 4 wins and an appearance on every World Cup podium, as well as plenty of other diverse riding, including the Cape Epic and the Dalby XC World Cup.
In the Men's event junior rider Neko Mulally had a run he wasn't happy with. The rain started to fall in the middle of the men's pack and Neko by his own admission he made too many errors in the slick conditions, and after qualifying 24th, finished 50th today. Justin Leov continued his run of top 10 placings, crossing the line to take the hotseat and eventually finishing with a 9th, scoring enough points to jump him from 10th in the overall rankings to equal 7th for the season.
In the lead up to the top 10 men, the rain had stopped and the course was starting to recover. It wasn't anywhere near as fast as yesterday for qualifying, but it had improved over the previous hour. Greg Minnaar rode a very solid race and set the time to beat, the first man under 2mins 10secs, and Gee Atherton had slotted into 2nd. For Aaron Gwin this race was as important as any other and he wanted to win, but a top 8 placing would be enough the take the overall World Cup Title with one race remaining, something that hasn't been done since 2000. Aaron made an error in the top 3rd of the course and then had some other hook ups further done the course resulting in a growing loss of time, eventually putting him into 3rd place; a run he was personally disappointed about, but the overall title was his, and that is in itself an amazing achievement.
Aaron said: "It's obviously and sincerely a huge honor to win the overall World Cup title, amazing honestly, but any racer out there will know that it always feel better when you take something like that with a run you're proud of. I made some mistakes today that cost me the win, and that's frustrating. Any one of my practice runs would have been better than that, but hats off to Greg, he rode super strong today and deserves to take the win. The overall is a huge honor and I look forward to lifting that trophy high for all the fans in 2 weeks!" On Sunday Tracy Moseley won her 8th National Title in Llangollen, Wales, ahead of Jess Stone (Trek Gravity Girls) and Katy Curd. Head Mechanic Sander Gijs was on hand for the event and took the podium picture below.

Here's Tracy in her own words about the event. "It was great to be racing in the UK and getting the chance to wear the Rainbow Jersey in front of the biggest crowd of spectators I've seen at a UK National for many years. The beautiful English summer weather really did us proud this weekend not only enabling us to sit out in the sun but also helped dry the steepest track I have ever ridden in the UK! It was the UK's answer to Champery for the first 1/3 of the track! I felt some pressure this weekend as I was definitely the rider to beat and with such a tough track making any mistake costly. However I managed to put together a safe run at the top and then really attacked the course the further down I got. A big thanks to my mechanic Sander for making the trip over and keeping my Session in perfect working order. It felt great to receive National Champ Jersey No.8 of my career."

Next week sees the Downhill riders all coming back together for World Cup No.6 in La Bresse, France. Both Tracy and Aaron lead the series and both Justin and Neko are climbing the rankings. Aaron Gwin Takes Win In Front Of Partisan Home Crowd

All four Trek World Racing downhill riders performed strongly at Round 5 of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Windham, New York in front of a large US crowd on a short and technical track. Neko Mulally (USA) took another solid top 30 result to move up in the rankings, Justin Leov (NZL) had his best result of the year in 6th, just 1/10th of a second off the podium, and Tracy Moseley (GBR) kept her perfect record of being on the podium for every World Cup race in 2011, with a 3rd place.

But it was Aaron Gwin's 4th win of the season that had the fans chanting U-S-A-GWIN at the podium and the city administrators changing the name of host town Windham to ‘Gwindham’ for the remainder of the day, in a flurry of red white and blue flags, that had everyone talking. Aaron's win, after qualifying first on Friday, was the first win on US soil by an American downhiller since both Missy Giove and Shaun Palmer won in Big Bear, California, in 1999. Furthermore, Aaron joins a small group of 3 men who have won 4 Downhill World Cups in one season, the other two being Francois Gachet (FRA) and the legendary Nicolas Vouilloz (FRA).

This was the second time the World Cup has visited Windham and the course certainly had its share of technical content with three major rock garden sections, and running around two and a half minutes in length. The weather was perfect and the crowds built all morning to beat the numbers from 2010. Tracy had qualified 3rd and was hoping to move up to second, but last year's winner Rachel Atherton (GBR) repeated for 2011, and this season's other in-form rider Floriane Pugin (FRA) took 2nd. Tracy maintains the overall lead of the series by 100 points with 2 races to go.

In the men's event, Neko Mulally crossed the line in an incident free run in 6th place with a 2m 32.087secs that ultimately scored him 27th, and now moves him up to 30th overall. Justin Leov qualified in 5th and was feeling great all week on the track. After a flying 1st and 2nd split that had him 4th and 5th, a small error while pushing hard in the lower sector meant he missed the podium by the smallest of margins. Aaron started last and the US crowd held their collective breath until the first split showed on the live giant screen, and when the green light shone with a gap of 2.1secs, the crowd started cheering non-stop until the Californian crossed the line with a 2.3 second win over legend Steve Peat (GBR), who ironically also took 2nd to Shaun Palmer back in 1999.

Aaron said: "The crowd here is amazing. It really means so much to me to win in front of a home crowd. The reaction was nuts. I can't put it into words. Having my parents here was also really special, as they have been such a big part of my entire 2 wheel career. As for my run, it felt very solid. I had two training runs in the morning that felt like great race runs, so I went up to the top feeling that all was set for a good day. It's perfect to have a win when the race run feels great."

Justin said: "This is the best I've been riding in my whole career, and I really felt like I had a podium run going. I got a little ragged in the bottom and that's where I guess I lost that tenth of a second, but it gives me so much confidence coming into the final part of the season. I've got to just keep working at it".

Aaron Gwin and Tracy Moseley Take Double Win in Canada

Despite threats of rain for Sunday's racing in Mont-Sainte-Anne, the wet weather stayed away and allowed for some spectacular racing on the famed mountain in Quebec. Hosting World Cups and World Championships since 1991, it’s a track that all riders want to win on, a true classic. For Tracy Moseley the venue has many special memories from her World Title win last year, and for Aaron Gwin, it was the venue that launched him onto the World Cup scene back in 2008. After qualifying fastest by an amazing 11 seconds, Tracy set off last down the mountain on a course that was a lot dryer and faster, and had seen some very impressive times set by her main rivals, Rachel Atherton (GBR) and Floriane Pugin (FRA). After establishing a lead at the first split time, Tracy kept building until she crossed the line with a margin of 1.8secs. This was Tracy's 3rd win of the year, and her 15th career World Cup win.

Tracy said: "They were 2 big goals for me this year, to win at Mont-Sainte-Anne, and to reach 15 career wins, so to have both happen here, on a track that gave me this rainbow jersey, is really special. I made a couple of little mistakes in the lower section but overall I'm happy with my run. A big thanks to my mechanic Sander, the bike was flawless all week".

In the men's race Neko Mulally was the first of the Trek World Racing riders to come down, putting in a really solid 4m 44secs and going directly into the hotseat. His run was smooth and without incident, and ultimately gave the junior rider his career best result of 22nd.

Next up was Justin Leov who had crashed in qualifying but as a protected rider was bumped up to ride 21 from the end. The skies were threatening rain at this stage, but the track was bone dry. Justin crossed the line being the first to go under 4m 40secs, with a 4m 39.48secs with what he called a smooth and steady run. It was straight into the hotseat for the kiwi where he sat for some time before some of the eventual podium riders came down.

Prior to Aaron's start, the giant screen showed a devastated Gee Atherton (GBR) on the side of the track having blown his rear tire. No-one likes to see a champion like that go out of the race in this way. Later the fastest qualifier Greg Minnaar (RSA) would crash in his final run, finishing 18th, and was in hospital later having his hand and thigh checked. Fortunately he's OK, but again, not a way we like to see the champions of this sport go out.

In Aaron's run, he also had some moments making for a less than perfect run that had him a bit frustrated when he crossed the line, not thinking it was enough for a win.

Aaron said: "Sometimes it's hard to judge these things. I mean it was loose, I ran wide on the right hander up top, two-wheel drifting to a dead stop, then I had some awkward bobbles down the track and I really thought I'd be lucky to podium. It sounds strange I know, but it's really hard to judge. It didn't feel like a race winning run. I'm bummed for Greg and Gee, I know how hard they must work for this."

In a strong showing by the Session 88, every Trek World Racing rider that crossed the line went straight to the hotseat or won. Both Tracy and Aaron extend their leads in the series, with 3 races yet to run.

Mathias Flueckiger Takes 4th In Mont-Sainte-Anne

After a difficult start to the season, both Mathias and elder brother Lukas are back to where they belong, fighting it out in the top 10 of World Cup racing. Both riders looked extremely comfortable in Saturday's 4th round of the series, until an unfortunate crash robbed Luk of a strong top 10 finish. However, younger brother Mathias moved up steadily to take 4th, his first elite podium since Val di Sole's 5th place last year.

Race winner Jaroslav Kulhavy took the lead from the start and was never challenged over the 6 laps of the 4.6km course. The real interest was in the placings 2 to 10 as this was constantly evolving. Nino Schurter (SUI) went out to attack the lead of Kulhavy, but soon found himself stuck between the leader and the chase group which at one point had 7 riders. Luk and Math were riding together early on in the top 20, but Luk clipped his foot on one of the many trees and had a small crash losing a little time on Math who started his move up through the field.
Soon Math was riding the 2nd half of the race in a group of 4 riders that made up positions 3rd to 6th. In this group was World Champion Jose Hermida, Florian Vogel (SUI) and former Under 23 World Champion Manuel Fumic (GER). Fumic was controlling the pace for a lot of the time until he crashed in the notorious 'La Beatrice' descent and never looked comfortable after that, and ultimately succumbed to a rear puncture. On the last lap Hermida made a break, and Mathias was unable to get around Vogel at this time to follow Hermida. By the time he could pass Vogel, Hermida was well away but Math rode on strongly to leave Vogel behind and take a great 4th place.
Meanwhile, riding in 9th place Luk had a big fall on 'La Beatrice'. A slight overbalance sent him plummeting down the steep rocky slope, tumbling a couple of times and hitting his ribs hard. He did recover, but was back in 20th place by the time he got his rhythm back, fighting on strongly to finish 17th.
Math said: "Today I felt really good on the Top Fuel. I just went out to ride and enjoy the race as much as I could. I was with Luk for a while and then he had a small crash so I started to move up through the field and had a good battle with those three guys for 3rd. Luk said: "Today I see I have the legs and speed back again. The crashes were not great, but my overall top 10 performance is there and I know I could have gone with Math. One of the riders I dropped in the race, Geoff Kabush, he ended up 7th in the end, so I feel I was ahead of that until I crashed. That was a tough crash, and so many guys crashed with me there. It's hard to get up from that and keep fighting on, but I'm glad I did. It's all good for next week."

Last weekend saw Neko Mulally travel with our mechanic Monkey Vasquez to Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada, where there was a round of the Quebec Cup. It gave Neko a chance to view the course and start making his plans for the World Cup race next week. Despite hitting and bending a pedal in his final run, Neko finished 2nd in Elite Men to Chris Del Bosco (USA), just 0.17secs behind.

This weekend sees Luk Flueckiger racing the 5th round of the Racer Bikes Cup in Chur, Switzerland. We'll bring you those results next week.

The XC and DH riders and staff will start moving to Quebec next week, where apart from our usual activities we'll be setting up a "Wellness Condo". This is where our two masseurs Gabby and Paul will be staying, as well as Neko's Grandmother and Grandfather. Neko's Grandmother Roe is famous for her amazing cooking and will be catering for the whole team during our two weeks in North America!

Also great news is that Willow Koerber will be joining us in Windham together with her fiance Myles Rockwell. Willow will be there to support the team and do other promotional work. There'll be a press release coming out about that and other news regarding Willow in the next few days.

Two lucky fans have been selected to join the team for the races in North America, as our Local Support Crew. Finally, World Cup Leaders Tracy Moseley and Aaron Gwin will be making personal appearances in Colorado the week afterWindham. Tracy will guest coach at the Winter Park Trek Dirt Series at the Trestle Mountain Bike Park from July 16 to 17. Aaron will also be in Winter Park on July 15, but prior to that, both Tracy and Aaron will make an in-store appearance at the Trek Store in Boulder, CO.

Aaron Gwin Wins and Trek World Racing is Top Team At Leogang

After suffering a last minute crash in Fort William one week ago, America's Aaron Gwin proved that he is still the man to beat in the downhill season of 2011, with a convincing win in tricky conditions at Leogang Austria. Aaron's win means that he, like his team mate Tracy Moseley, will be carrying the World Cup leader's jersey across the Atlantic for Round 4 in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada, in 2 weeks time. It was a great weekend for the entire team with Tracy finishing 3rd, Justin Leov scoring another top 10 with 8th, Neko Mulally having a career best 32nd and the Session 88's carrying the team to the top spot for the weekend, just like Fort William.

The course in Leogang was very much affected by the wet and cloudy weather throughout the week. Large holes and ruts were opening up and the first sector of the track was very slippery and would normally demand mud tires, but the rolling speed of the remaining 2 sectors meant that for the men, dry tires were a better bet. 2nd place Gee Atherton (GBR) who rode just before Aaron (who started last as the fastest qualifier), ran mud tires and was 3 seconds up after the first interval on eventual 3rd place Greg Minnaar (RSA). That looked impressive, but when Aaron came down on dry tires, and was 1.7secs faster than Gee, many in the crowd just shook their heads in amazement. This was to be an amazing run. When Aaron crossed the line, he had more than 2 seconds over Gee, and nearly 6 seconds over Greg Minnaar. An incredible ride on the 2012 World Championship course.

Aaron now has a 46 point margin over Greg Minnaar, with Atherton 101 points behind. Tracy Moseley's 3rd was a solid ride and one that she was very happy with on this track. Her series lead is 90 points going into Round 4. Justin's 8th place in the race moves him from 10th overall to 8th, while Neko jumps up to 39th and is looking forward very much to racing Mont-Sainte-Anne.

Aaron said: "I walked the first section of the track just before my race run, to see how it was changing and that certainly helped. Then lower down I came unclipped and instead of taking a big risk trying to get my foot back in, I tried to calm myself down and rode a good 200m before I found a safe chance to get back in and power down. After finishing 3rd here last year, and especially after last week's crash, I'm super stoked to take this win.”

Tracy said: "I knew Floriane (Pugin) would be the favorite on this track, so my goal was a top 3. I struggled a bit here last year, so to get 3rd and be only 1/10th of a second behind Rachel on this type of track makes me pretty happy”.

Justin said: "The course was a lot tougher in early morning training. The mud was super tacky and collecting shrapnel making the chain skip a lot, but fortunately the sun came out and I could have a good run. Screwed up a couple of things up top, but definitely happy to be only 0.7secs off the podium.”

Tracy Moseley Wins and Trek World Racing is Top Team At Fort William

Fort William is the absolute classic on the World Cup Downhill circuit and a race that all downhiller riders want to win. In winning for the fifth time at "The Fort", Tracy Moseley becomes the most successful Downhill rider ever in the decade long history of the venue. On top of that, her result along with Aaron Gwin and Justin Leov who both finished in the top 10, meant that Trek World Racing scored its first trophy for 2011 as Number 1 Team.

It was almost another story altogether with Aaron Gwin starting last in the men's field, as the fastest qualifier, leading by a massive 5 seconds with about 1 minute of racing to go, and clearly about to win by a large margin. A crash when his rear wheel got hooked up on a tree stump as he ran a little wide meant that he lost the 5 second margin, and a bit more, and finished 5th; the disappointment clearly evident on his face as he circled the finish arena while Greg Minnaar celebrated the victory.

Justin Leov was back in strong form with a 6th in qualifying, and a solid 8th in the race. His front tire lost pressure during the run and this affected his time a little, but generally he was very happy to be back in the top 10. Neko Mulally who qualified successfully on Saturday, was pushing hard for big points when his front wheel washed out on a sandy corner and he went down before he could get a foot out. He went down again on the next corner as he was still trying to get clipped back in.

Tracy Moseley has a commanding 170 point lead in the overall standings over Floriane Pugin (FRA), while Aaron will be back in the Trek World Racing jersey with the stars and stripes for the next round, sitting in 2nd place, just 47 points behind Greg Minnaar. With 250 points up for grabs at each of the 5 remaining rounds, the season has only just begun.

Tracy said: "This place is so special to me. I had my first ever World Cup win at Fort William, and to get my fifth win here, in the Rainbow Jersey, is incredibly special. The fans absolutely make this place, and it’s a privilege to race here in front of them all".

Aaron said: "Just a simple crash really. I knew I'd had a good run and was on for a good time, but unfortunately I came into a corner where I was using the inside line, and I was coming in a little too hot and ran wide and got hooked up before going down. Frustrating crash, but it definitely makes me hungry for next week."

Justin said: "So good to be back where I know I belong and our Fox suspension this year works so well, together with the Session, that there was just no arm pump this year on the course, and that made a massive difference for all of us. We have an incredible combo now with the suspension set up and the bikes."

Aaron Gwin Wins US Open, Mathias Flueckiger Fights Back In Offenburg

Today saw Trek World Racing once again competing on two continents, and this time in 3 different countries. The Flueckiger brothers were racing World Cup XC #3 in Offenburg (GER), the three Downhill men racing the prestigious US Open in Vernon, NJ (USA), and Tracy Moseley at a National Downhill in Scotland (which was cancelled today due to poor weather). The Downhill men scored another strong result with Aaron Gwin (USA) winning the US Open ahead of a world class field, with team mate Justin Leov taking an impressive 3rd place, as he did in 2010. Unfortunately Neko Mulally punctured in the qualifier and didn't pass to the final.

With the added competition from world class riders like Gee Atherton (GBR), Mick Hannah (AUS) and Stevie Smith (CAN), qualifying was a very tight affair. There is also the added note of caution for the top riders because unlike the World Cups, there are no protected riders at the US Open, so any mechanical or large crash will put you out of the final, as Neko learned. Fastest qualifier was Andrew Neethling, with Aaron in 2nd and Justin 4th behind Gee Atherton. On finals day the times dropped by a dramatic 6 seconds, and it was Aaron Gwin who not only won the event for the first time, but becomes the first American to win the US Open in its 9 year history. Stevie Smith was less than a second behind in 2nd, and Justin beat Gee Atherton into 4th, and took home the prize money for 3rd place, yet again.

Meanwhile, in the warm conditions in Offenburg, Germany, Lukas Flueckiger had another race where he hovered around 20th place, eventually finishing 21st. While younger brother Math overcame the obstacles from last week and despite dropping to around 40th early in the race, fought back to meet up with his brother and take 22nd, thus moving his World Cup ranking up 4 places for the next race.

Mathias Flueckiger said: "I feel like I'm coming out of a hole, so today was a big step in the right direction. I'm going to take some time to get some altitude training in before the next World Cup race and find my base again. I know I can go a lot faster, and I'm happy with this result after such a tough experience in Dalby Forest."

This week sees Trek World Racing with riders, staff and support vehicles in 3 separate locations around the world. This is the first time the team has achieved this. In Offenburg (GER), the XC Men will be racing MTB World Cup #3, supported by 5 staff, the new VW Transporter and the Black Betty van. In the USA the DH Men are racing the prestigious US Open in Vernon, New Jersey, supported by 2 mechanics and the Peterbuilt US rig. Meanwhile in Glencoe, Scotland, Tracy Moseley will be racing a UK national downhill round, supported by Head Mechanic Sander Gijs and the Scania 'Viking' Truck. With the volcano in Iceland becoming active in the past 5 days, the team thought it best to keep Sander with the Viking in the UK, to ensure it made the journey safely to it's next scheduled World Cup, in Fort William.

All is ready for World Cup #3 here in Germany. The weather looks fairly good for the weekend, and Offenburg is an absolute classic on the circuit attracting huge crowds. Be sure to watch all the action on Freecaster, live and free.

Lukas Flueckiger Improves 3 Places In World Cup Overall, Aaron Gwin Wins Pro GRT

Yesterday saw Trek World Racing competing on two continents. The Flueckiger brothers were racing World Cup XC #2 in Dalby Forest (GBR) and the three Downhill men were racing the Pro Gravity Tour DH #3 in Plattekill, NY (USA). The Downhill men scored another strong result after qualifying 1-2-3, it was Aaron Gwin (USA) who took the win with Justin Leov (NZL) in 2nd. A simple crash for Neko Mulally (USA) where a front wheel washed out cost him 9 seconds and he ended up 14th.

Scattered showers all weekend didn't dampen the mood in the team camp, and if anything the course held up extremely well to the conditions. In qualifying the team managed to hold down the top spots once again with last week’s winner Neko taking 3rd, Aaron holding down 2nd and Justin back on pace to take the top spot. Race day saw perfect timing with the weather; a near perfectly dry course, a good crowd and some very fast times. Aaron Gwin said: "I'm stoked on the weekend. It's been a lot of fun hanging out with my teammates and mechanics in such a relaxed atmosphere. Also cool to be racing in my home country, so I can't wait for next weekend’s race at the US Open!"

Justin Leov said: "It was a full-on track and to get down with little mistakes was great. Big lines were happening and it just goes to show how the sport keeps developing, and what we end up being able to do on these Session 88's. I've been coming up with my riding/racing these last few weeks so I'm excited to get on with the US Open next week and then back into the World Cups. I’m extremely happy with how my run went."

Meanwhile, in the cold and blustery conditions in North Yorkshire, the XC men had a difficult weekend with Mathias Flueckiger withdrawing after the 2nd time across the start/finish line, having dropped down from 15th to 83rd, suffering from a lack of power in the legs. Lukas rode steadily and made his way into the top 20 in the closing stages of the 1hr 45min race, scoring 19th and lifting his overall ranking in the World Cup series by 3 places to 19.

Lukas Flueckiger said: "I gave it my all today. This was a little frustrating because my speed in the 2nd half of the race was better, but I didn't seem to have the pace in the opening laps. I will be working on this in the coming week."

Worthy of special mention was the performance of World DH Champion Tracy Moseley (GBR) in the Women's XC World Cup. TMO finished an impressive 69th out of 83 elite XC women, and would have gone higher had she not suffered a puncture and got pulled with one lap to go. A great effort none the less!

Trek World Racing Stack The Podium At Pro GRT 2

It was a 1-2-3 for Trek World Racing's Downhill Men at the 2nd round of the Pro Gravity Tour in the US. The race took place at Highland Park in New Hampshire, and despite the dire wet conditions on the final day, all 3 riders raced their Session 88's to the top of the podium. The big surprise for some was that the winner was 'junior' rider, Neko Mulally (USA) who had a convincing gap of 2.5secs over team mate Aaron Gwin (USA) and another second back to Justin Leov (NZL), who is back on pace.

The stacked podium was a great end to the weekend, which started off in sunny conditions, but then just as the final came around, the heavens opened up. Neko felt confident on the wet roots and rocks and rode a time that was strong, but he was pretty sure he would get beaten.
Neko said: "I was having a good time all weekend. It felt good to be back racing a local race again. I didn't feel any pressure and was just having a good time with friends and especially Aaron and Justin. It was supposed to rain all weekend and a lot of people were stressing over it but I wasn't worried because I knew I could ride mud as good as anyone else. While we were warming up for the race it was raining super hard, so I knew the track wouldn't be as slick and the rocks would have been cleaned off. I rode with confidence and had a clean run with no mistakes. I knew it was good when I crossed the finish but I really thought Aaron and Justin would have beat me if they had good runs. With a good race this weekend, I'm really looking forward to next weekend."
The team is off to Plattekill, NY, for the next round of the Pro Gravity Tour this weekend.

Gaspi in Morocco

Want to experience real freeride? Forget bike parks, forget all those tips for well-trodden trails. Join us for a ride in Morocco where you can whizz down to the valley from the high summits as freely as you would on ski or snowboard in British Columbia. Just before the start of the season, we headed for Morocco to meet Richard “Gaspi” Gasperotti, a three-time participant of the Red Bull Rampage and an organizer of bike camps in Morocco.

The High Atlas are really high. Jebel Toubkal, the tallest peak in Morocco, rises more than 4000m above sea level, and there are over four hundred 3000+ m peaks. The landscape is incredibly varied. Rocks revel in colors, from brown and red, to ochre and yellow, to grey.

While you have to follow a single trail in a bike park, in Morocco the guide will take to 3000m, from where you can ride down as freely as when heli-skiing in Pemberton. You get to decide whether you will keep your ride on the ground or jump from a rock or two. Depending on the location and the length of the descent, you can manage up to five rides a day.

Another adventure in Morocco is a 20km trail that falls 2000m. At Gaspi’s camp you will ride a different track every day, so don’t worry about being bored.

What does a day according to Gaspi look like? At 8 a.m. Gaspi and Pierre Alain will pick you up at your hotel and will take you to the mountains, to a different spot every day, about one or two hours’ drive from Marrakesh.

Pierre has a big offroad Pajero that can negotiate any mountain road and easily accommodates four bikes on its roof. Driver Rashid will take you to the start of the trail and then drive the car back to the valley, while the guys will guide you along a 15km or even 20km downhill. No problem to enjoy breathtakingly long downhills in the High Atlas.

As the main dish in Morocco, you will be served delicious couscous (with vegetables or lamb). However, the top delicacy is “tajine”. To have a taste, Pierre Alain navigated us to a Berber village high up in the mountains. Tajine is a mixture of meat, vegetables and potatoes, which is slowly stewed in an oven in typical ceramic pots with high cone lids.

Tea is enjoyed on any occasion in Morocco. The people in the Berber villages will show you the traditional method of brewing tea in wrought iron kettles. The restaurant manager will prepare one kettle with green tea and another full of mint tea. He mixes the content of both in another vessel and adds an amount of sugar that would last an average Canadian family for more than two months. For four people, about a kilogram of sugar was used! The tea is mega-sweet, but delicious.

It costs a dollar or two to hire a guide in Morocco, but without a guide, you will blunder in the mountains, get lost and you may not enjoy the ride that much. The mountains are incredibly vast, without any trail markings. Without a genuine offroad car, such as Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser or Mitsubishi Pajero, you don’t have a chance on the eroded mountainous roads. Tomorrow we'll be sending out a press release announcing the two new 'In Pursuit' videos that will be posted on our website. The Downhill one is called "P1's in PMB", and the Cross Country one is called "XC1 in RSA". A huge thanks to everyone for their congratulations after the South African trip. It was a mega logistical exercise being in Africa for 1 month, helped immensely by Ray Waxham of the Trek Race Department. To be leading two World Cup series is a great honor for the team. Congratulations Tracy and Aaron!

News from the Flueckiger brothers is that Luk did in fact damage his finger (not broken) in the training crash the day before the World Cup race, and has since had it in a splint, resting it, but it will be 100% very soon. Training has been very positive this week. Math, in the meantime, raced in Houffalize last weekend. Here's his report:

"The Race was for me in two parts. I had a very good start and went well with the leaders. For the first 3 laps I was in the lead group with Absalon, Schurter, Fumic, and Fontana. Kulhavy was further back. Then I went to the lead in a downhill and I felt very strong at that point, and only Schurter followed me and we diced together. Then suddenly in the next long steep climb my legs did a big change. They were so stiff, and with all the climbing, it was over for me. I never had this in a race before, and in the finish my back hurt again like the W/Cup. Maybe this was the reason. But I'm happy with the first 3-4 laps, it was a quality World Cup field."

In other news, in a deal fixed this week with Decline Magazine in the USA, there wil be a monthly "Trek World Racing Column" where the 4 downhill riders will rotate and write an article each issue, together with photos etc. This is the first time that a team has had its own column and we're very thankful to Mark Jordan at H3 Publications for making it happen.

Historic Double Win For Trek World Racing In South Africa

At the opening round of the 2011 Downhill World Cup, Trek World Racing's Tracy Moseley (GBR) and Aaron Gwin (USA) have walked away with the leaders' jerseys of the series after a display of blistering speed, strength, and determination in front of a huge crowd in sunny Pietermaritzburg. For Tracy it was her first World Cup win in the coveted rainbow jersey of the World Champion, and for Aaron, it was his first World Cup win ever, and the first by an American male since 1999.

Aaron qualified 7th 2 days ago, but in the time between that race and today’s final, he worked with the Trek World Racing mechanics to find the ideal set up for what was going to be a much faster and drier race. His Fox suspension was perfectly dialled as was his choice of Maxxis rubber, and together with a supreme show of speed in the first and second sectors the Californian, who only started racing World Cups in 2008, scored his 8th World cup podium, but an all-important first win for his career, and his new team.

For Tracy Moseley, who did the same thing as Aaron here in 2009 when she won her first World Cup for Trek World Racing on her first outing for the team, it was her 13th career win, and her 3rd for the team. After winning qualifying on Friday by nearly 6 seconds, it was a much tighter affair today winning by 0.28secs. The course was running about 15 seconds faster for the women and the effort to get the bike to the line was huge.

Tracy said: "That was so tough today. Towards the end I was running out of steam and had the rear kick up on something in the lower section of the track; then I heard the onsite commentary say it was going to be close, so I dug deep until the end. It means a lot to win my first World Cup at my first attempt since earning the World Champs jersey, it just means so much."

Aaron said: "I'm pretty speechless actually. It's a dream. In the first sector I made a little mistake, hitting some trees with my shoulder, but then I just regrouped and put as much power down as I could in the middle sector. By the end, the legs were really feeling it, and then it was a pretty nerve wracking waiting in the hot seat. The bike is amazing, I can't praise it enough, and the whole time here in South Africa with the team has been so great. Can't wait for Fort William, I love that track."

Team Director Martin Whiteley said: "Three years ago Trek, like Aaron, wasn't racing at the top level of World Cup Downhilling. Here we are today with clearly a winning package and I can't speak highly enough of the engineers in Madison, and our key sponsors who give our talented athletes such an amazing set up to do their job. I'm so proud of everything this team has done since we arrived in Africa 4 weeks ago, and I'm really looking forward to a thrilling 2011 season".

There are 6 weeks until Round 2, in Fort William (SCO), but between now and then, the Trek World Racing boys will be racing on the east coast of the USA.

Mathias Flueckiger 15th in Super-Fast World Cup XC Race 1

Starting on the front row of the first World Cup of the 2011 season here in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Mathias Flueckiger was quick to get away at the start of the 6 lap race, with brother Lukas close behind starting from row 2. However, it was very clear 10 minutes into the race that the pace was super quick, more than most riders were expecting, and before long, a group of 3 riders (Nino Schurter, Julien Absalon, Jaroslav Kulhavy) had taken a gap on the rest of the field, and stayed out there for the entire race.

New rules from the UCI meant that the race would be shorter than ever before, at just over 1hr 30mins, on a track that was baked hard and dry by recent warm and humid weather. This also meant that it was the fastest race since Dalby Forest, Round1 in 2010, with an average speed above 20km/h. (The World Cup in Champery last year was 16km/h average for example).

Additionally, most riders who had raced hard in the Cape Epic a few weeks ago were clearly suffering from a lack of explosive speed, a common complaint among those finishing outside the top 10.

Yesterday in his training session on the course, Lukas crashed awkwardly and hurt his hand, specifically the inside of his right palm where the index finger joins the hand. This meant he had next-to-no pull up power on the handlebars today and was not riding at his best in the technical sections, and finished 22nd.

Mathias Flueckiger said: "The first straight from the start felt good for me, it was a good start and I was in a good position, but then the high pace stayed a lot longer than normal and I lost some positions. The pace was so high and I just didn't have any explosive power in my legs. I had to fight back from around 20th place to stay in 14th or 15th. It was not as good as I was expecting, but I had a similar start in Dalby Forest last year, and got stronger throughout the year so I know what to do to get up to speed for Round 2."

Lukas Flueckiger said: "The injury to the hand the day before was a real disappointment for me. My legs felt good today, but after my crash yesterday, my body wasn't comfortable, I didn't sleep well last night, and I had no power in the handlebars today. I was controlling everything with my legs, which made for a difficult race. The speed was so high today, but for me it was more about controlling the bike. I was handicapped today and will get this checked as soon as I get back to Switzerlandnext week."

Meanwhile, the other big news of the day was Willow Koerber's announcement that she is 6 weeks pregnant, something she only discovered yesterday afternoon. After finishing 2nd in last week's national race on the World Cup course, Willow knew there was something not quite right. The previous 2 weeks had seen her feeling unwell, and overall lacking energy. She decided to take a pregnancy test to see if this was the reason. Fiancé and former DH World Champion Myles Rockwell was the first to get the call, and shortly after Willow spoke to Team Director Martin Whiteley, who said today:

"Obviously this is a bittersweet development for Willow who on one hand was ready to take on the world in season 2011, yet on the other hand, is now expecting her first child with all the joy and excitement that brings. One thing is clear, we as a team are fully supportive of Willow in this new development and while this was not the plan, life is not predictable and all the team members have been so supportive since she spoke with everyone last night at dinner. Willow leaves South Africa on Monday and will return to be with her nearest and dearest to discuss what comes next, and we expect to be in a position of greater clarity next week." There are 4 weeks until Round 2, in Dalby Forest (GBR), and many riders will be looking forward to getting home and working on their preparation for the next major race of the 2011 season.

All Three Trek World Racing XC Riders On Podium in PMB

Today saw the South African National Series XC race on the World Cup course to be run here in Pietermaritzburg next week, and the conditions were extremely difficult. Temperatures were lower than they've been all week, the rain bucketed down and the track was very muddy, providing a real test for the World Cup riders that took to the course.

Despite this, all three Trek World Racing riders manage to podium with Lukas Flueckiger taking the win in the Elite Men, Willow Koerber took 2nd in the Elite Women, and Mathias finished 3rd in the Elite Men.

In the women's 4 lap race, several of the World's top women took part, including former World Champion Irena Kalentieva (RUS), Lene Byberg (NOR), Esther Suss (SUI) and Mary McConneloug (USA). Straight from the start Willow took the lead and was at the front for most of the first two laps. Then in the middle of the event was left without energy after a difficult weak last week fighting a stomach bug, but re-grouped by the end of the race to take 2nd place behind Kalentieva.

"That was probably the muddiest race I have ever done! It was 98% ride-able but towards the end it was really hard to see. Eyewear was fogging up and it was almost a guessing game choosing lines. But I'm so happy to have done that. I learned so much riding my Top Fuel, and I can go into next week with an important box checked."

After a fast start in the men's race, Luk crossed the line at the end of lap 1 of 5, in first place, just ahead of last year's big improver Jaroslav Kulhavy (SVK), with brother Math not far behind in 3rd. The race soon became a battle between Luk and Kulhavy, and on lap 3, Luk punctured a rear tire and took the opportunity to swap from his XR3 tires to MudX tires, and caught back up to Kulhavy, and then began to make a break. His lead went out to 40secs by the end of the race, with Math 3rd about 4mins back.

Luk said: "Good race for me today, and I enjoyed the conditions. I learned a lot and I'm happy to be on the top step. Bike worked great, shoes were perfect for the conditions, overall I am really happy."

Math said: "It was a little bit quiet for me with no riders around, but I used the day as a good exercise in technical improvement, and I learned a lot. With Absa Cape Epic done and dusted, the whole team has moved into Camp here in Stellenbosch, near Cape Town, at a great Lodge where the riders have been able to get in some quality training, testing and recovery, and even some impressive games of tennis! The menu at the Lodge has included Warthog, Springbok and Ostriche Lasagna, and the weather has been amazing.

In addition to the training and testing aspects, they have all been working with team photographer Gary Perkin to get some excellent shots which will feature in the team hero cards being produced in time for the first World Cup in 12 days. Above is a great team shot taken earlier this week.

The new team website, which will be found at www.trekworldracing.com, is to be launched on the eve of the World Cup, Fiday April 22nd. A worldwide press release, as well as notices on Twitter and Facebook, will let everyone know about this new and exciting site. The Flueckiger Brothers Win Final Stage of Absa Cape Epic

The Swiss brother team of Lukas and Mathias Flueckiger wrapped up their third Cape Epic campaign yesterday with a win on the final 65km stage into the Lourensford estate in Somerset West, just outside of Cape Town. In front of a huge crowd in perfect sunny conditions the brothers crossed the line on their Trek Top Fuel 9.9 SSL full suspension race machines, to be greeted soon after by team mates Willow Koerber and Neko Mulally, in town for the start of the team's training camp.

On Saturday, the day prior, the 128km stage took its toll on older brother Luk who really suffered in the last 5km of the stage and was completely out of gas at the finish, not even able to speak:
"It was the worst I've been. I was riding like a drunk man and could hardly hold my head up when I got off the bike - but my recovery was key to the win today". After the tough Saturday stage, Luk ate straight away with Isostar recovery drink, took a nap, then lunch, then a 3pm massage, followed by another nap, then later had dinner, then a good sleep. It worked well as both boys attacked from the start on the final stage. Their first attack on the first climb was to see how the peloton was reacting and when they saw they had a great chance to get away, attacked again and by 10km into the stage, were away and building a good lead. By the water station the Trek World Racing team had more than a 3 minute lead, and settled into a good rhythm. Closer to the finish they eased back a little to ensure they took the win, and eventually won in a time of 2hr 33min 18secs, 2min 19secs clear of 2nd place.

Mathias said: "This is always a tough race for me, coming out of the Swiss winter and my military service this time, it's my first race of the year, so it was very tough the first few days, but by the end I started to feel I was in good shape. It's with great pride that we cross the line here as brothers, and the crowd here is so amazing, it's makes the week very special."
The brothers have now won at least one stage each of the 3 times they've entered the event, a record not held by many other teams.
With the first round of the UCI World Cup in 3 weeks, in Pietermaritzburg, the brothers now join the rest of their team in a training camp and then head to Pietermaritzburg on April 13 for the National Race on the World Cup course.

Neko took a lot away from his racing in Vigo yesterday. After qualifying solidly in 2nd place, behind last year's winner Bernat Guardia, and many seconds ahead of World Cup top talents like Brendan Fairclough, Josh Bryceland, Cedric Gracia and others, things were shaping up well. In the qualifier he had a bad start, so he knew he could go quicker.....but a small mistake in the first section of the wet/slippery course saw his hand come off the bars, and lose valuable time as he crashed and bent a front wheel. But it's clear the speed is there and he is a long way ahead of where he was this time last year.

Two Wins For Trek World Racing At Season Opener______20, Mar, 2011

Gouveia in Portugal is recognized by many as the unofficial season opener for international downhill racing, and Trek World Racing riders Tracy Moseley (GBR) and Neko Mulally (USA) decided to use the event as an important ramp up to the start of the World Cup season next month. Tracy took the win in the Women's category, proudly wearing the rainbow jersey of the reigning World Champ, and Neko won the Juniors and also took 2nd place overall in Scratch.

The track in Gouveia is notorious for the high speed rocky sections throughout, and during the week it claimed many riders, bikes and wheels. Tracy crashed in training yesterday when she had a front wheel wash out and she landed heavily on a large boulder, destroying her new custom painted helmet, but other than some soreness, was good to go for racing today. Neko survived a spectacular high speed crash on his final training run, after misjudging a landing slightly, and landed hard and fast onto a large pointed rock, destroying the rear wheel and sending him over the handlebars in a cloud of dust. He too destroyed a brand new custom helmet, but walked away from the crash with little more than bruising and scraping.

In qualifying, Tracy had to pass two slower riders before setting a time of 3m 19.13secs, which she promptly bettered in the finals, posting a 3m 16.15secs and putting a margin of 18secs between herself and 2nd place. Shortly after the podium, Tracy was in a car on the way to the airport to connect with her flight tomorrow down to South Africa where she'll be racing in the Cape Epic for charity. www.worldbicyclerelief.org

Neko's qualifying run time of 2m 54.103secs put him nearly 10secs ahead of the next junior, but also into an impressive 2nd place overall, behind a flying Danny Hart (GBR). In the final Neko took more than 2.5secs off his time to consolidate the category win, and to take 2nd to Danny Hart in scratch, scoring big UCI points and a nice pay check.

Tracy said: "Job done. I came here wanting to get more comfortable on the DH bike after a long winter, and even though I did some sections better in practice than in the race, it felt good to be back on the bike in the sun! I've been coming here on and off for the past 7 years, and it's always good to be on the top step here."

Neko said: "In qualifying I was caught up behind a slower rider that wouldn't move from the track. I had to pass him MX style, handlebar to handlebar at high speed, which was pretty fun, but cost me time. Danny was too fast for me here, but after improving in the final, I'm really happy to be where I am right now."

Next week Neko goes to Vigo for the International Vigo DH Contest, and next week also sees the Flueckiger Brothers in South Africa for the start of the Cape Epic.

Back To Back Wins For Leov In NZ 12.2.2011

Today saw Round 5 of the NZ Cup on the new course in Nelson, and fresh after his win the week before at Kaka Hill, Justin Leov (Trek World Racing) took his second trip to the top step.

After practice on the new track, Justin said: "Again it's super hot here, and there's dust a foot deep covering a lot of the steeper sections of the course. Arm pump was an issue today and managing energy tomorrow will be key. I rode (Maxxis) Wetscreams today because of all the off-camber and loose conditions, and it worked out pretty good. It's going to be a sketchy race run in these conditions and over 5 mins for the winning time I'd say."
Full results are not yet available, but Justin called 23 Degrees straight after the win. "Just won again, two in a row, man that was tough today. Really happy with the two wins and looking forward to doing some testing in the coming weeks."
Last week saw big margins on the podium, for a race also in hot 30+ degrees conditions, that had its fair share of carnage. Wyn Masters the most notable rider out with a fractured arm.
After Round 4, Justin said, "I was feeling awesome all through practice, my bike felt dialled in and I was in a great head-space for the race. In seeding I was first rider down in elite men and I caught a rider in a slower category. I didn't take too long to get past and although I knew it lost some time, I was disappointed to seed 6th and be a long way back from Cameron (Cole), so I knew a comfortable run in the final wasn't going to happen. I knew going up that I had to ride like a World Cup and that's what I did. I took a few more risks and made sure to really push hard with my exit speed out of all the corners. I had a time goal of doing a 3.12 and I smashed that time with a 3.07. It definitely was a faster pace than I expected from the other riders and I guess that goes to show how fast the kiwi riders are these days".

Over the past few weeks Neko has been busy designing the colors for his new helmet for the 2011 season, and the folks at Kabuto Helmets in Osaka, Japan, have just sent us the final artwork.

(There's a special edition for the Worlds, but we'll let Neko show that one off later in the year!)

The design takes its cues from the new Trek World Racing team kit, the US flag in mono, features his NM moniker, and is sponsored by Worldwide Cyclery. The helmet itself is a custom version of the new IXA carbon from Kabuto, and these will be on sale worldwide in March

Neko will have his new helmet for a Trek World Racing testing camp in Spain later this month.

Addition of Aaron Gwin Highlights a Stacked Roster

23 Degrees Sports Management is thrilled to announce the addition of Aaron Gwin (USA) to the Trek World Racing 2011 downhill roster.

Currently the UCI World #3, Gwin will race a Team-issued Trek Session 88 throughout the 2011 World Cup calendar alongside his Trek World Racing teammates. A relative newcomer to the sport, Gwin has experienced a meteoric rise in his young career and is widely known as one of America's brightest downhill stars. "I'm really excited to be joining Trek World Racing. I've looked up to Trek bicycles since I was a kid watching Lance Armstrong win the Tours so to be a part of that same American brand and adding to that racing heritage is pretty cool. The support this team provides is second to none and I believe I'll have all the tools I'll need to achieve my goals." Aaron said.

Returning for 2011 will be World Champion Tracy Moseley (GBR), World Silver Medalist Neko Mulally (USA), and World Top 10 rider Justin Leov (NZL). All three riders have had their best career years while riding aboard Trek, and are looking forward to welcoming Aaron to the team. The title sponsor is as excited about the 2011 roster as the team is. When asked about the brand's involvement with the team, Trek Vice President Joe Vadeboncoeur remarked "Trek is more dedicated than ever to racing and to the Trek World Racing Team. Its value to our product development and brand is immeasurable but beyond that, we really, really just like to race. Our roster is filled with young talent that is going to provide a lot of energy mixed with mature riders that will continue to produce results. Our intention is to be at the top level of racing at all disciplines." On the continued success of the team, Team Owner, Martin Whiteley said, "After the first 2 years of the program, and all we've learned both on and off the bikes, it's clear we’re ready to take the momentum from the two medals won in Mont-Sainte-Anne and spend more time on World Cup podiums in 2011. It would be great to end next season with the yellow plates aboard our bikes, and be crowned the number one team in downhill racing. With this line up, it's certainly a real possibility."

Justin Leov said today: "I know this program as well as I know the bike, inside out now, and working with amazingly focused people is what I'm all about. I look forward to having a solid crew of staff and riders to work alongside these next two years and a lot of fun times and great rides along the way. I just want to get on with it for 2011 and prove I can put down great race runs in the World Cups and at World Champs." Neko Mulally said: "I'm really looking forward to racing next year. To have such top notch support and a great group of people around me allows me to be the best I can be. I have taken in a lot this past year with Trek World Racing and with a better understanding of racing at the professional level I can't wait to put down some solid performances in 2011."

After the mega episode that was Ep9, here's the final episode of Trek World Racing's In Pursuit series, wrapping up season 2010 for the team. This short length episode features the Downhill riders at the final Pro Gravity Tour event in Whiteface, New York, where Tracy Moseley had her first outing in the new World Champion jersey and won the event, and the three men made a clean sweep of their podium.

What a season! A huge thanks to our talented riders, Emily Batty, Mathias Flueckiger, Tracy Moseley, Andrew Neethling, Lukas Flueckiger, Justin Leov and Neko Mulally. Also to our hard working and professional mechanics Sander Gijs, Oli Kaderli, Monkey and Ely Woody. To the dedicated management staff Paul Schlitz, Gab Murphy and Jess Hayes we say thank you, and of course full praise to our highly acclaimed videographers who brought you the In Pursuit series this year and will do so again next year, John & Rob Parkin.

The latest installment of Trek World Racing's webisode series, In Pursuit, is released today and features the World Cup finals in Windham, New York, which was a great event for the sport in general. Watch Ep8 to see Mathias officially crowned the Under 23 World Cup Champion, Tracy Moseley pick up 3rd overall, and a great 2nd place in the race, and Lukas take his first World Cup podium of the year on the new Trek Top Fuel.
